RAPKIN GITLIN & BEAUMONT's Intellectual Property, Business and Contract Law Department (the Department) involves primarily the practice of patent, trademark, and copyright law, and the related areas of unfair competition, trade secrets, business law and contracts (including licenses and assignments), infringement and related business litigation in state and federal courts within and outside the State of California. The firm's partner, Larry Gitlin, has over 30 years of experience as a practitioner in the areas of intellectual property, business and contract law. Since 1976, he is has been licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in Washington, D.C., where the firm regularly files and successfully prosecutes a wide variety and large number of patent and trademark applications.

The firm's clients fall within a broad range of industries, including manufacturing and distribution (e.g. musical drums, drumheads, furniture, recreational vehicle supplies and accessories, aerospace, apparel textiles, women's shoes, chemicals and dyes, watches, fine and fashion jewelry, pressure washers, computer software, audio speakers, hair care products, pharmaceuticals, and inline skates and skateboards) and services (e.g., home construction, home improvement, photography studios, Hollywood entertainment awards, and equipment and consumer product sales).

LARRY F. GITLIN, the head of the Department, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 26, 1946. He attended Long Island University and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. He went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Physical Organic Chemistry in 1972 and co-authored scientific articles based on his graduate research in the Journal of the American Chemical Society and the prestigious British publication Journal of the Chemical Society. In 1976, he graduated with a J.D. degree from Southwestern University School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of California the same year and has been a member in good standing since then. In 1977, he was admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has been a licensed patent attorney since 1976 and is qualified to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, where he has successfully prosecuted hundreds of patent and trademark applications. Other memberships and associations have included the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Los Angeles Patent Law Association. During his career, Mr. Gitlin has actively supported local businesses and was a member and on the Board of Directors and the Board of Governors of the North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. He also chaired the Chamber's Industrial Committee. Mr. Gitlin has co-authored an informational publication on patent, trademark and copyright law, has written articles on the law of trademarks for the San Fernando Valley Bar Association and has been interviewed and quoted in the local media regarding a major copyright law court decision.

ROXANNE ROGERS received her Bachelor of Science degree from California Lutheran University in 1989, later attending the Ventura College of Law. She completed her J.D. degree in 1993 while working full-time as a paralegal. With 20 years' experience as a transactional and litigation paralegal, including more than 12 years in patent, trademark and copyright prosecution and infringement litigation, she is an integral part of the Department's precision and function.

SUSAN GLEASON has over 20 years' experience as a legal secretary, with 10 years as a legal assistant in the areas of patent, trademark and copyright infringement litigation and business law. Susan is instrumental in the processing and maintenance of the Department's innumerable trademark, patent and copyright files. As a Notary Public for the State of California since 1990, she has assisted many Rapkin Gitlin & Beaumont clients with their notarial needs.
